Family Get Together

We had John's family Christmas party this past weekend. Here's a pic of the grandkids. John's mother couldn't make the party as she was home sick with the flu.
We adults do a Yankee Swap which ends up being alot of fun. This year, both Jared and Kaylee got into the Yankee Swap. We all ended up with some pretty nice gifts even with all the exchanging going on.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. We will be going to my sisters house for Christmas Day to be with everyone. My sister, Bren, will drive up from Maryland.

Merry Christmas

Today, I'm off to try and do some Christmas shopping. Its harder now that the kids are older. No more one stop shopping at the toy store! Hope everyone is having a beautiful day!

Holiday Weekend is Over

It was nice having Jared home for 4 days. The weekends sure to go by fast now. Is it a sign of getting older? When we were younger, the days just never went by fast enough with work, school work, friends. Now that we aren't the kids anymore, the time sure does by fast.

John and I hit the stores on Saturday to start some Christmas shopping. The crowds weren't that bad at all. We were talking on how we can't do the one stop shopping store (ToysRUs) anymore now that the kids are teenagers. It was so easy then wasn't it? Now, its gift cards and money!

Hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Enough is Enough!

I've been sick since Wednesday with a think is the flu! Aches/sore throat/fever! It hasn't been fun! I try to get into the sewing room and do a few things, but then I'm back to the couch for another nap! I had a shot on Tuesday for tetanus/whooping cough that my doctor suggested and I'm wondering if this is side effects from that!
Ugh!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving week. Don't forget to leave room for the desserts!

Many Blessings!

Veterans Days

Happy Veterans Day to my husband, John. When we met 22 yrs ago he was just back from a six month tour with the Navy and home on leave for a few weeks then heading off again! We were both seeing other people so we didn't think anything about it. But about two months later he called from overseas and asked if I'd like to go out for dinner when he got back in two months! I said "yes"! We've been married 20 yrs! Who would of thought!

Thank you to all our veterans and military personnel serving for country! We honor you!

Mug Rugs

Here's what else I'm working on. Wilds Things pattern by Thimble Blossoms. I wanted to make a Christmas one for my table. Right now, I'm in the middle of machine quilting it. I haven't done alot of machine quilting and boy do I need practice!

I'm hooked on mug rugs! They are very fun to make! Jodi over at Pleasant Home blogged about them and I've been making them since. Here's two that I've finished so far

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Quilt Show

My friend Peggy and I went to a Quilt show today featuring Amish quilts. They had a miniature exhibit of Amish quilts from the Lowell Quilt Museum, but unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures of the minis. Here's a few pics of some of the quilts.

One day, I hope to be that talented to make such wonderful quilts! I bought a snibbles pattern that I've seen so much about here on blogland.

Happy Halloween

Hope everyone is having a fun Halloween Day! John and I went to a costume party last night. John was a China man with a bamboo hate. I went as a Clothesline. Put doll clothes that I've made on a piece of material then attached it to my shirt. I even made a small quilt to hang on it! LOL

We had two trick or treaters tonite. Can't believe it! We usually have about 30 kids. What will I do with all that candy?

Well, I'm off to sit and watch some football!

Swaps - No More!

I've done a few swaps over the past year and haven't had much luck in receiving anything from my swap partner! Why do people sign up if they aren't going to swap? I'm all confused with this? I'm in another swap right now and was suppose to receive something by today and its happened again - nothing!

It's very discouraging when some of us put our heart and soul and sewing machine needles going and we get nothing in return. Do people only sign up so they receive something but not return the favor.

My daughter keeps telling me to forget swaps! I'm starting to think she's right!

Swaps - no more!

Wild Things

Here's what I'm working on. Wild Things by Thimble Blossoms. Love the pattern. So far I've done 6 blocks with many more to go! I've also made a few Halloween goodie bags for decoration.

We are going to a Halloween party this weekend. As Halloween is my least favorite holiday, I've decided that I would dress up! I can't decide between a recycling lady or a cereal killer! I'll take pics this weekend so u can seem them.

Have a good day!

Patriots Place

Yesterday, John and I spent the day together. Its strange not having the kids with us, but we are starting to learn how to do things without them. So off we went to Patriots Place..home of the New England Patriots! It was a great fall day to walk around, have lunch, do some shopping. Here's a pic of John with the three Super Bowl trophies.

After we went to Wrentham Village and I ran into to the Vera Bradley outlet! Which one to buy? Too many to choose from. Plus, the store was packed! Are we sure we are still in a recession because people were certainly shopping yesterday. It took us about 20 min to find a parking place. Yes, I did buy a goodie!

Today, is relaxing and watching the Patriots with some friends. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Riverdance On Ice

Last night, John and I went to Riverdance on Ice. I really didn't know what to expect. But, it was two things going on at the same time. The ice skaters would be on the ice and the Riverdance dancers would be on a stage at the end of the ice. It was hard to focus on both of them from where are seats were. So I saw some ice dancing and some riverdancing!

It was being filmed by NBC as its going to be on TV on Feb 19th! I can't wait to see if there is a difference from what we saw. I wonder if they will show the 15 min power outage we had, or the first skater who fell on her jump, or the lack of people being in the seats. The creativity of editing!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Cold Antler Farm

I'm a follower of this blog, Cold Antler Farm. The owner, Jenna, is a young girl working full-time, but is wannabe fulltime farmer. She just bought a house and is making into a farm. She has goats, chickens, dogs! She cooks from scratch, etc. It's alot of fun reading her blog.
Right now, she's giving away a drop spindle and a signed copy of her book! Go over to Cold Antler Farm and check it out.

Swaps

I'm looking for a website where they list swaps? I had it listed on the old computer and now I can't remember. Anyone know of some websites? I like doing swaps and haven't done one in awhile.

thanks!

Vacation

I'm back from vacation! Carol and I had a great time despite the weather of rain and very cloudy! But like my friend said..a day at Disney in the rain is a better than a day at home! LOL

It was Carol's first trip to Florida and she loved it! She wasn't a fan of the Soarin' ride at Epcot, but loved everything else.

Now its time to get back to reality!

Girls Trip to Florida

My girlfriend, Carol and I are heading to Florida this coming weekend for 4 days. Carol has never been to Florida so this will certainly be a treat for her. We are very excited.
We are going to stay in Orlando and will go to Epcot for one day. But otherwise will be downtime. It will seem strange not having John and the kids with me. This will be the first trip with a girlfriend. I feel so grownup all of a sudden. Yikes!

I haven't done much sewing since the pillowcases. I did make one tote bag, but nothing otherwise. Haven't had the mojo to get into the sewing room.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Pillowcases

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month so I decided to sew up some pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer. Here they are hanging on the clothesline.

Everyone is getting back to a normal routine. Kids are busy with school and part-time jobs. JOhn is busy with work and I'm trying to keep busy in the sewing room. I'm trying to stay out of the cookie jar!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Back to College!

I can't believe summer has ended and its now time for the kids to get back to school. Now, though, I have to say back to college! Jared will be heading back for his second year at college. Kaylee is technically a senior in high school, but instead will be a freshman at college. She's doing a program called duel-enrollment. She will do all her classes at our local college and not have to go back to high school ever again! Yipeee!!!

High school has not been kind to Kaylee at all with all the girl clicks! Yes, girls are very mean! I don't ever remember being that mean in high school. So we are praying that she will meet new people who have the same passions as she does. Here's a pic of them when we were on vacation this summer.

Next year this time I'll be sending both of them away to school and we'll have an empty nest! Oh boy! Changes in the Grant House for sure!

Hope everyones first day of school goes smooth! Have a great day!

New Tote

New Tote! I love it! I got the pattern from Youcanmakethis.com! It's so easy and the instructions were awesome! Maybe some friends will be getting one of these for Christmas.

I got a book, Quilt for Peace, a while ago and started a project from it yesterday. Preemie Pinwheel Quilt. Small quilt for babies that are born premature. You can check out the website: www.newbornsinneed.org! Great organization

Patriots Football Game

John and I went to the first Patriots preseason football game this past week. Actually, my first football game ever! We went with 10 other people in a camper. We had a blast! We got there about 3 hrs before the game and tailgated. What a spread! Then after the game, they cooked more burgers and dogs to absorb some of the liquid we consumed the previous 6 hours! LOL

Here's John and I when I was talking on the phone with our son, Jared. He called and wanted to know what time we would be home? Do we have a curfew????

Swap Gift

I signed up for a swap on Dandelion Quilts for a tote bag. Here's my goodie from Katie! I absolutely love it! Love the colors, grommets and cute buttons. Thank you, Katie!

Here are two books that I'm reading. The Craft Hope book has wonderful projects to do and donate to wonderful charities. Right now, Craft Hope, is asking people to make pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer. A great organization that makes pillowcases for children with cancer.

The other book, Sisters on the Fly, is a fun read. In the book, it shows 1950's, 1960's campers that have been brought back to life and being used for camping. How fun with that be! We recently sold our 29' camper because it was too big...I wonder? Definately a book for the husband to look through!

I have the next few days off from work, so I'm hoping to do some sewing, scrapping and reading. Hope everyone is having a great day!

New Tote Bag

I bought this pattern, Mini Bow Tucks by Penny Sturges, about a year ago on a trip to Pennsylvania. It came in a kit with all the material. I put it away and forgot all about it until last weekend and finally finished it this weekend!

I even have enough material left over to make a wallet to match. It was a very easy pattern to read and might have to make more for Christmas gifts.

I'd like to make a Schnibbles quilt, but need to find patterns for them first. None of the quilt stores around here have ever heard of them!

Fabric Stash

I recently came upon a blog, Sewing in No mans land. Its from a small island of Dili in Northern Australia. The woman behind the blog, Kelly, tells about them moving every two years because of working as diplomats. She had to take only 15 yards of fabric with her and her machine and when that runs out she can only use what people send to her or when she buys when she gets back to the states. Fabric is very hard to get over there. So she asks if you want to donate fabric she will make some goodies for the children over there that are in orphanges. Its a very low income area that they are living in.

Here's a pic of the fabric I will be sending over to her. I hope it fits on one box! She said it will take about 4 weeks to get to her.

I can't wait to see what she makes. If you want to donate, check out her blog. I'm sure she would appreciate anything.

Where are the palm trees?

Here's another pic of our vacation. The kids couldn't wait to see a palm tree. This is from Epcot where the water was "dancing" to music! It was really fun to watch!

We're Back!

We arrived home last night. We had a great time! The weather was hot and humid, but sitting by the pool it really didn't matter. We did go to Epcot and enjoyed some of the countries and Illuminations Fireworks show at night. Kaylee and I had a girls only day and we went to Magic Kingdom. We had so much fun! The boys played a round of golf and then went to Hooters for lunch! Did you know that Hooters has good chicken wings?? LOL

We stayed at the Sheraton Vistana Resort which I rented off the internet. It had two bedrooms with kitchen, etc. Plenty of room for all of us! I will definately rent there again.

Now it's back to reality. Work, chores, getting Jared ready to go back to college and Kaylee starting her senior year of high school as a freshman in college. Changes amongst the Grant household for sure.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

The pic is of the kids near the Lego store in Downtown Disney.

Vacation Bound!

We are vacation bound on Saturday. Can't wait! We are heading to Orlando for some rest and relaxation. Yes, maybe some Mickey fun too! I don't think our kids have been so excited about a vacation before!

I've done some sewing..a few tote bags, wallets. Trying to get some Christmas gifts started.

Hope everyone is having a great summer.

New Computer

We got a new computer this past weekend and I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. I haven't figured out how to hook my camera up to it yet. Our other computer got hit by lightning and got fried!

My thumb is coming along fine! It's still quite black/blue but I'm finally able to use it a little.

We are really looking forward to our vacation to FLA! I know, why would we want to go in July! It's the only time we can go together because the kids have different vacation schedules now that Jared is in college. I'm sure we will do alot of poolside fun for sure!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Broken Thumb!

Yup..broken thumb! I fell this past Monday and broke my thumb. Don't really know how much u use your thumb until you cant use it. I can't use scissors, rotary cutter, blow dryer, what a pain! I go to the ortho surgeon today to see if I have to wear a cast or not. I hope not as we leave for vacation in three weeks. I want to be able to swim.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

50th Wedding Anniversary

My parents 50th Wedding Anniversary is June 12th..tomorrow! WOW! My Dad said he can't believe how fast it went. Here they are at Jared's graduation last year. I'm using a pic from Jared's computer since my computer died last week during a lightning storm!

They didn't want a big party, so we are having a family portrait done with all 15 of us. Then back to my sisters house for a wonderful dinner and laugther!

We love you, Mom & Dad!

Prom Night

Here's our daugther, Kaylee, between her brother Jared and John. Can't believe she's old enough to got the prom!

Thursday, June 3, 2010

It's June? When did that happen?

Boy, time is sure flying by! I can't believe its already June! This weekend is Kay's first prom, so I've been busy getting her dress ready. I need to fix the straps a bit.

Both sisters bday's were this past weekend so I made them tote bags with goodies in them. Did I take a pic..of course not! I hope to finish a tote bag designed by Penny Sturges called Mini Charmer.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Tote Bag Finished!

John went camping/fishing this weekend with the boys so I decided to get this tote bag done while he was gone! I think I will only be making this one! It called for fusible fleece which I didn't have so I had to use sew in kind which was a pain! I must of ripped this tote bag three times. It's still not perfect! I'm sure I will use it but not right now. I can see the few mistakes I made.

I'm making a few other goodies, but can't show u right now because both sisters birthdays are this weekend and that would spoil the fun! Hope everyone is having a super day!

Flirty Skirty

This is an apron I made this week from The Apron Lady Designs called Flirty Skirty. Love the fabric! My local quilt shop, Cobblestones, had a kit already done with the fabric and pattern.

Now I'm starting on a baby quilt with the pattern Circle Around. It's from the Summer issue of Quilts and More! I have to a some project to work on so I'll stay out of the cookie jar!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Green Fairy Quilts

I just found a blog, Green Fairy Quilts, where they are asking for quilt donations and money donations for an upcoming trip to a Romania orphanage in Sept 2010. The money donations will be used to buy food as the orphanage is also a soup kitchen for the homeless kids. She writes how the kids blow into brown paper bags as that takes the hungry pains away.

So if you want to donate, go to their website and you can donate via paypal. I'm going to sew a quilt for them.

They have a video of their Sept 2009 trip where they are handing out the quilts for the kids and buying toys for them! Very cute kids!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! We had a great weekend. John and I went out shopping for my gift and then out to lunch! Then yesterday we went to my sisters house for a nice cookout. Below is my Mother's Day gift! Isn't she pretty! I asked for a sewing machine for my birthday (which was last month) and John felt that wasn't a fun gift to give. I think I must of talked about alot since then, lol, so Saturday he said "enough"! We are going to get it! Yahooooo!!! I'm very happy!

Now I just to need to figure out how to use her!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!

Mom & Dad

We went to my Uncle Donald's wedding recently (my Mom's youngest brother) and had a great time seeing all the cousins. It was a nice small ceremony where both bride (Bernie) and groom were radiant. Of course, I didn't get a pic of them because they were too busy! So here's a pic of my parents, Warren & Lee, who will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary this June! They both said it went by really fast.

I've finished sewing a Quilts for Kids quilt and I'm now sewing a tote bag. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Quilts for Kids

Here's one of the quilts ready to be shipped for Quilts for Kids. I finally got it quilted/washed/dried. Came out really nice. I'm sure some little boy will really enjoy it!

Happy Birthday!

Today is my birthday! I can't believe another year has gone by. Where does the time go? Jared has finished his first year of college and will be home in two weeks. Kaylee is almost done her junior year of high school and is preparting to do dual enrollment next year at Fitchburg State College. WOW!

I would like my birthday present to be: when the kids have to be 7 yr and 5 yrs for one day. Wouldn't that be wonderful. Yes, I know, it can't happen. So I will have to pretend.

Actually, I"m off to work today to play with the residents. I don't mind, I like my job. I'm an Activity Asst at a Nursing Home. I'll come home though to a clean house, beautiful dinner on the table and a nice relaxing evening with family and friends!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Disney outfit

A coworker of mine is going to Disney this week with her husband and three boys. I think the boys ages are 7,3 and 1! They are driving from Mass down to Orlando! I hope she has enough batteries for the DVD player! LOL

She asked me to make some shorts for the younger two boys. I also put Mickey Heads on the white t-shirts. Here's a peak of the youngest ones outfit!

Can't wait to see a pic of the boys in their outfits!

Coupons, Rebates, oh My!

Recently I came upon a blog, couponingtodisney.com. What a blog! She tells how she uses coupons, rebates, etc to save for a trip to Disney. Now, I've used coupons here and there before and have never really gotten on the bandwagon. Well, I think I'm going to jump on!

I've printed some coupons out, got the Sunday paper and even signed up for a coupon exchange train. I'm going to see how much I can save over a six month period and see what I come with! I wonder if another vacation would be on our horizon?

Do you use coupons/rebates? Hope everyone is having a great day!

Potholder Swap

I joined the Potholder Swap 2 at www.duringquiettime.com with Amy. We had to sew two potholders and send them to your partner.

Here's a pic of the goodies I got from my swap partner, Tiffany!

What a wonderful gift! Potholders, handmade soap, and fabric! I've never seen the potholder with grommets..they came out really nice!

Thank you so much, Tiffany! You did outstanding!

It's been awhile since I've blogged!

Time sure is flying by! I haven't been blogging at all. I've been busy sewing blankets for Project Linus, sewing pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer and sewing some blankets for Quilts for Kids. Love spending time in my sewing room..keeps me out of the cookie jar!

Jared is home for Spring Break. It's nice having him home. He'll only have six weeks left of school and he'll have his first year of college done! WOW!

Kayle wants to go visit a few colleges over April school vacation to figure out where she wants to go! OK, who said my baby could go to college???

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Project Linus Blankets

I've been working on some blankets for Project Linus in conjunction with the Disney Volunteer For A Day Program. We need to make one blanket per person in order to get a free one day ticket to the Disney Parks. Here's three blankets that I've done.

Kaylee cut out all the fabric for me on the two quilted ones and helped tie them with me. I loved having her help me, because the projects went alot faster. I wonder if she'll do that from now on???

Jared came home for a night because of a carbon monoxide leak in his dorm. The fire alarm went off at 1:30am and its a good thing it did, because the fire dept said the levels were very high and rising. They were told they can move back in Sunday night. Thank goodness for carbon monoxide alarms!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Kid Quilt

I signed up at Downy.com/helping kids and received this quilt kit to make a small quilt for a child who is sick or going through cancer treatment. I'm thinking its for a boy..love the race car fabric! They give you everything except the batting and directions. What a great cause.

I haven't done much sewing lately. Been busy with work, doing chores around the house and overall spending time with the family. Hope everyone is having a super day!

We need Warmth!

It's been mighty cold here in New England. We haven't gotten alot of snow thank be goodness. Unfortunately, the lower states got hammered this weekend with snow. My sister, Brenda, lives in Maryland and she said they had about 26" of beautiful white snow! Ugh! Can you say shovel??

Don't we all wish we were here right now!

This is the new swimming pool area at the Caribbean Beach Resort in Walt Disney World, Florida! Where are the drinks with umbrellas?

Hope everyone is having a super day!

Sad news

Yesterday morning, my sister-in-laws sister died from injuries sustained from a snowmobile accident in New Hampshire. We don't know all the details yet, but the family is crushed. Two children, one in college and one a senior in high school. Our prayers are with the Bradanick family!

I still have to finish up my Valentines Swap goody. I worked this weekend, so I"m hoping to get it done tomorrow.

Jared did texted me earlier and ask if I would send some cookies and brownies! What a hoot! The food is not so good at college so he's looking for some homemade goodies. He'll be home in another two weeks, but I'll send some anyways! Isn't that what Moms do?

Hope everyone is having a super day!

Cold is Almost Gone!

I'm feeling much better. It's been about a week with the cold and I think I'm going to make it! I don't need to use that many tissues during the day now which is good. I think John is coming down with it though! He called from work and said he was not feeling so good. Oh, boy! That means a long weekend for Kay and I. LOL

I have done no sewing this past week other than the lanyard for work. I did start making a Disney album for a co-worker who is going to Florida in April. All she'll need to do is add the photos. When I'm finished I'll take a pic and post it.

Hope everyone is having a super day!

Lanyard and a Cold!

Yes, I got the winter cold! Felt good yesterday at work, but by the time I got home..look out! Where are the tissues? How many times can a person blow their nose? So today is a low key day, just me and my box of tissues.

I might try and make a new lanyard for work. With the fabric I have around here, I'm sure I can make one. I want to make a springy one, something with alot of color. I'm sure the residents will love to see something with color!

Hope everyone is having a super day!

New Books

I got a Barnes & Noble gift certificate from my husband for Christmas and these are the goodies I got. I've just starting gardening this past summer, with little luck, so I got a book on square foot gardening. Maybe I'll yield more this year with the help of the book.

The other book is: One yard wonders. Things you can make with one yard of fabric. Oh, gosh! What do I make first? Some of the patterns are for purses, baby goodies, organizing items for your house. I"m going to be busy for sure!

Jared went back to college yesterday. He texted me this morning at 7am saying its still dark out! He hasn't seen that early in about a month! Off to class you go, Jared!

Speaking of off you go..i should get ready for work! Have a good day!

What to Sew?

Went to my Quilt store, Cobblestones, this past week and got these goodies. I want to make another A Piece of Cake from Thimble Blossoms. I finished the snowman top of A Piece of Cake, I just need to get backing.

Last night I watched about 2 hours of television on Haiti. I just couldn't believe that it actually happened. Because of watching so much tv, I was up in the middle of the night thinking about it. I sure do pray that the people of Haiti get everything they need soon.

Jared goes back to college on Monday. It was wonderful having him home and having him at the dinner table every night. He is excited to get back and see his friends and start classes again. He truly loves college.

Hope everyone is having a super day!

A Piece of Cake

I got this quilt pattern right before Christmas but didn't have time to start it! So I started it this weekend and I have most of the top done. Its Thimble Blossoms, A Piece of Cake. I used all snowman fabric. Now to do the borders! I wanted to get the fabric today but the store is closed on Mondays. Maybe tomorrow after work.

I also made some homemade bread today. Hopefully it'll taste good with dinner tonite. Hope everyone is having a good day today!

Birthday Girl!

Happy Birthday to Kaylee! She turns 17 today! I can't believe it. Where does the time go? I think she was around 8 yrs when she found out that she had the same birthday as Elvis. She was so happy..because she hated that her birthday was in the winter and not the summer so she couldn't have a pool party. She's now a junior in high school and thinking of studying Occupation Therapy in college.

Have a wonderful Birthday, Kaylee! xoxo

Pillowcases

We took down all the Christmas decorations today and got the house back to normal. Whatever normal is? I still have a few odds and ends that need to be put away, but most of the stuff is put away.

I did sew these four pillowcases today. I was sewing in between watching the Patriots football game. We lost in the fourth quarter! Say it isn't so!

Have a super day!

Happy New Year!

Can you believe its already 2010! Where is the time going? It seems like yesterday my kids were in elementary school and now they are in college and one a junior in high school. WOW!

In the new issue of American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine, they are putting out a challenge for people to make one million pillowcases in 2010. You sign up and tell them how many you've made and you donate them to a charity of your choice. So far, I've made one and have four more cut out and ready to sew. I would love to make at least fifty and donate them. How fun is that! It will certainly keep me busy.

I hope 2010 brings everyone health and happiness.
